Finding backlinks in Google, Yahoo, Alexa, AltaVista and AlltheWeb

How can I increase the traffic to my website?
This is a recurring question all website owners will have. Easiest but time consuming way to achieve good traffic is creating backlinks.

What is a backlink?
Backlinks are links to your website from other websites. When backlinks increases, search engines increases the page rank of your website. So, chances are there for your website to appear first in search results.

How do I create backlinks?
  1. The recommended way of creating backlinks is blogs. Write nice blogs with nice content which attract people to your website. Include links to your website which will increase the traffic to your website.
  2. Next option is to put comments on others blogs. Make sure you post valid comments, not spam messages.
  3. Forums are another place to market your website. Most of the forums allows you to put a signature where you can add the link to your website. Actively participate in discussions, help others in solving their issues, parallel increase the traffic to your website.
How do I know how many backlinks my website have?

Most of the search engines gives us tools to count the backlinks. How to find backlinks using Google, Yahoo, Alexa, AltaVista and AlltheWeb are given below:

Google:
  1. Go to http://www.google.com
  2. Type link:url and click on Google Search. eg: link:techmindviews.blogspot.com
*Keep this in mind that Google does not show all back links(Try Google Webmaster Tools for the complete list)

Yahoo:
  1. Go to http://search.yahoo.com
  2. Type link:url and click Search
  3. This will redirect you to Yahoo Site Explorer (http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com)
Alexa:
  1. Go to http://www.alexa.com/
  2. Type link:url and click on Lookup sites
  3. Click on 'Sites Linking In'
*Alexa also shows the rank of your website based on the traffic.
AltaVista:
  1. Go to http://www.altavista.com/
  2. Type link:url click on Find
AlltheWeb
  1. Go to http://www.alltheweb.com
  2. Type link:url and click on Search
